Organization Description:
L’Arche Greater Washington, D.C., is an interdenominational Christian community of people with and without intellectual disabilities who share their lives together. Life in L’Arche centers on four communal homes and sixteen members who have intellectual disabilities. Relationships are at the center of L’Arche. We recognize the gifts of each member and strive to build relationships of mutual care and support between people with and without disabilities.

Job Position
Job Description:
As an assistant you’ll:
- provide professional,personalized services to core people (people with intellectual disabilities,)
- advocate for and with core people for the rights they deserve, and
- grow personally through mutual relationships within the community.
During a typical day, you’ll enjoy both busy periods and down times—providing direct support and care to the core people, or simply being present with the members of the community. Core members and assistants prepare meals, clean, spend time in prayer and leisure, and attend community events together, fostering a spirit of respect and participation among all members.
Job Qualifications:
It is most important that applicants to L’Arche have an open heart, a willingness to learn, a commitment to personal growth, and a belief in the unique sacredness of every individual. Excellent communication skills and a valid driver's license are required.
L’Arche welcomes applications from people of all ages, races, genders, faiths, and sexual orientations. Most assistants live in one of the homes, located in Washington, DC, and Arlington, VA, but the community occasionally needs live-out and awake-overnight assistants as well.
