University of Richmond Student's 2009 Summer of Service:

The Amy Biehl Foundation, Cape Town South Africa

 Purpose:

Through Amy Biehl's legacy the mission is to weave a barrier against violence by giving at risk youth  living in townships of the Western Cape, the opportunity to learn, perform, and to receive recognition for their talents and creativity.

The Foundation is a non-profit organization based in beautiful Cape Town but focues soley on developing and empowering youth in the near by townships. The Amy Biehl Foundation efforts have contributed tremendous sucess towards community building and mechanisms to reduce the high levils of crime and violance in some of the most devastating communities, including Guguletu where Amy's life was taken. The programs of the foundation benifit thousands of individuals who are living through unhealthy circumstances every day.
