[1] New Foundation Staff

This fall, the Bonner Foundation welcomes three new staff members:

Keri Wilard-Crist - Program Coordinator

Michael Richardson - Program Associate

Ellen Peltz – Assistant to the President

Keri comes to the Bonner Foundation as a recent graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary, where she completed her Master of Divinity degree in May 2009. A graduate of Greenville College in Greenville, Illinois, Keri studied religion and the humanities. While a sophomore in college she completed an AmeriCorps term at a rural elementary school in Colorado, where she worked with a literacy program and taught poetry in the after-school program. Keri has experience working in higher education, including as a writer/editor, and has also worked as an assistant director of a youth center. When she’s not working she enjoys sewing repurposed garments and linens into wearable art.

Michael joins the Bonner Foundation just recently finishing the Congressional Hunger Center’s Bill Emerson National Hunger Fellowship Program.  During the program Michael worked in New Orleans, organizing and educating local communities around energy efficiency and in Washington, DC he work with RESULTS, a national policy advocacy organization, creating new groups around the country and planning workshops for their annual International Conference. Michael graduated from Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia with a Psychology degree in May 2008.  Throughout college, Michael participated in the Jumpstart Program as volunteer and event coordinator and was also a Bonner Scholar.   During his free time he likes to watch and play sports, listen to music and write poetry.

Ellen is a recent transplant to the East Coast, hailing from the cornfields of Indiana. She recently finished her master’s degree in journalism at Indiana University where she worked as a grant writer for a local theater. Ellen is a graduate of Wheaton College where she studied English and theater. Her previous work experience includes, but is not limited to, churning butter dressed as a 19th century farm woman, hotel housekeeping, steaming expensive dresses, and teaching children to safely but successfully throw tomahawks. Needless to say, she’s excited that her job at Bonner comes with a desk.

The Corporation for National and Community Service is now accepting applications for the 2009 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll (the Honor Roll) to recognize exemplary, innovative, and effective community service programs.

President Obama has made service a central cause of his administration, and through his United We Serve initiative he is calling on all Americans to make service part of their daily lives. The President places a high priority on supporting and developing the role of institutions of higher education, and their students, staff, and faculty, in addressing the nation’s most pressing social needs.  As service programs and initiatives grow, colleges and universities are reaping the benefits of service --- attracting high quality faculty and students, enriching learning, and building stronger alumni and community ties.

The Honor Roll is a program of the Corporation for National and Community Service, supported by the U.S. Departments of Education and Housing and Urban Development, Campus Compact, the American Council on Education, and other higher education associations.  Over the past three years, nearly 900 colleges and universities have been named to its ranks, of which 18 have received the Presidential Award for exceptional contributions and institutional leadership.

The Honor Roll is an annual recognition program.  Institutions must apply each year to be recognized.   Please complete the electronic application available at http://myproject.nationalservice.gov/honorroll/.

The deadline is 5:00 p.m. (EST) on Thursday, October 29, 2009.

For more information on the Honor Roll and to watch a short video on the Honor Roll, visit www.NationalService.gov/HonorRoll.
