Roadmap Planning Tool
The Bonner Foundations asks each Bonner Program to develop a plan that articulates how it is intentionally supporting the developmental model. Whether the program is a four-year Bonner Scholars Program or two-year Bonner Leader Program, the program can help students develop the skills, knowledge, and values that guide their work. Through intentionality in the placement process, meetings, training, reflection, and integration of the cornerstone activities, each Bonner Program can foster students' learning outcomes.
This Roadmap Planning Tool was developed to help guide a planning process. It helps campuses to think through how to structure the learning and service at each level.
How to use these tools:
- Read the tool and take a look at some examples (below).
- Convene relevant groups of people to do the assessment (part 1); you may also want to use the Self-Assessment Tool to take stock of how integrated the developmental model is into your program at this point.
- Figure out who is going to be involved in designing the training sequence for each class. This can include students themselves (a good exercise can be done at a meeting, using stickies and facilitating the students' input on the topics and sequence). Faculty and other staff (other departments or advisors) can also be involved.
- After those generative processes, make some decisions. Simplify your plan to clearly articulate a handful of topics (3-5) for each semester. Remember to cover a topic more than once and in a developmental way. Link your trainings with practical opportunities, like conversations at sites or cornerstone activity planning.
- Finish out a calendar and draft it for sharing with your students. Put it into BWBRS. Put it in your handbook and on the wiki. Find the relevant trainings on the Bonner Website, on campus, online, and so on. Implement your plan.

After a campus has articulated a clear sequence of training & enrichment, it can be presented in clearer ways to students. This often happens through the handbook or other printed materials, as well as in BWBRS (where these training activities are logged).
