Hello Everyone,

I am Rene Sanchez, a Native from Memphis, TN, born in Mexico and a freshman Bonner here at Rhodes College.  The Bonner Program here at Rhodes gives me everything that I want in terms of service in college, experience in nonprofit organizations, and a bonding experience with the community and other peers. I became heavily involved in the Community during my sophomore year in Christian Brothers High School. I mostly focused in tutoring children who reside in the greater inner city Memphis. I used to attend inner city schools during my first years in the US and I felt the need to aid children so they could get ahead in life and be somebody one day. I also participated in Bridgebuilders, a leadership program that critiques the issues of racism and helps children get involved in the community. I was also appointed as the community service coordinator for my school's service organization. Currently, I am heavily involved in an after school tutoring program called Casa Maria. Here I tutor mostly Hispanic children with school work. I am also involved in the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender advocacy program. It focuses in helping the GLBT community by doing fundraisers and other activities.

My major at Rhodes is going to be International Business with minors in Political Science and French. I am really looking forward for my four years in college and I am excited to continue doing service and meeting new people.
