• Number of volunteers recruited: Brittany recruited 70 Bonner Vols for the YDI and 70 FSP TCNJ vols for the YDI day.  Brittany recruited 13 vols for weekly shifts at ASA after school program,

• Giancarlo recruited 5 vols for a weekly shift at PEI kids. and Wagner Correctional Facility

Section 3: Strategic Initiatives

Below are the CNCS Strategic Initiatives, please give at least one example of activity that addresses at least one strategic initiative that your program has addressed. This may or may not be related to a performance measure. Describe the activity, including need that was addressed; local collaborations or partners; service activity; and results.

Mobilizing more volunteers: We have used our community partner sites and needs to mobilize more volunteers. With the ASA after school program we send volunteers there on a daily basis. We also use the TCNJ community to recruit more B VOls. Brittany and Giancarlo do a great job of using multiple in-house resources to mobilize more volunteers.

Ensuring a brighter future for America's youth: With programs like the youth development institute we are building platforms for our youth to become successful. The YDI is a great example of providing the ex-poser to higher ed for students that would not have the chance to experience this. The YDI also merges two different worlds together for one common cause.(The future of our youth). We were able to bring 350 inner city middle school students from Hedgepeth Williams to TCNJ and engage in student driven workshops and campus tours. This program is very important to the Trenton students by providing a much needed resource. The inner city youth also got the chance to talk to many TCNj students over lunch and participate in the workshops on campus.

Engaging students in communities : With the partnership with the ASA after school program students are directly engaged with the local Trenton Community. The ASA program services over 100 kids and families from Trenton. The students that volunteer at the site get to work with the community at the grass roots level.

Harnessing Baby Boomers’ experience: We are currently trying to develop our El centro ESL program. The ESL harnessed baby boomers that are trying to learn English. We have a team that teaches ESL there on a weekly basis. We are in discussion to try and find ways to actively engage this population in service and adjusting to their new communites.

Brittany Aydelotte

Brittany organized a CEL day with our partner PEI kids. PEI kids services youth in Mercer County that are on probation for serious crimes. Brittany is passionate about youth development and urban education.

     She developed a basketball skills clinic, and writing workshop that taught the kids life lessons and self reflection. We were able to facilitate the clinic with the help of some TCNJ men's Basketball players. Each drill connected directly to a life lesson(teamwork, setting a goal, communication, keep striving for your goal).

     Britt was especially enthused by seeing the first year tcnj students interact with the PEI students. She also was able to read all of the PEI kids writing prompts after we finished the day. The prompts were focused on " what is one thing you would change if you could go back in time".  She felt this day and project was " eye opening to everyone"
