The 2012 Bonner Summer Leadership Institute will be held at Carson-Newman College from Monday, June 4th through Thursday, June 7th, 2012.  Summer Leadership Institute is the annual Bonner Conference for administrator, student, faculty, and partner representatives from roughly 75 colleges and universities in the Bonner Network. Prominent themes this year will include how we—as individual and campuses—can raise our voices and take action to contribute to greater social justice.

Overview of Summer Leadership Institute

The 2012 Summer Leadership Institute will provide participants with learning and professional development opportunities intended to enable them to strengthen the quality and work of campus-based service efforts, with an emphasis on themes such as deepening community partnerships, supporting students to develop and engage fully , and building vibrant, sustained infrastructure for campus-community engagement. In addition, we will have some special themes, linked to key initiatives such as the High-Impact Engagement Initiative and International PartnershipsIn terms of Bonner participants, the meeting will include several tracks, designed around roles and featuring key national partners, such as:

  • Bonner Congress Track - which will include training and networking opportunities with staff and students reflecting on success with their Big Ideas and skills and planning to continue to strengthen their campus, community, and culture of service.
  • Bonner Senior and Community Impact Interns — which will include training and planning to prepare for your roles in program management, as well as time to reflect and prepare for life after Bonner (with support from alumni and other mentors).
  • Administrators & Partner Track — which will focus on sharing best practices for campus programs, program management, and cutting-edge initiatives.
  • Faculty Track—geared at faculty, administrators and advanced service-learning students.  This track will focus on strategies for faculty engagement in community-based learning, as well as high-impact practices and linking them to broader institutional work (such as QEPs and strategic planning).  The Faculty Track, to be planned in partnership with other networks including the Tennessee Campus Compact is open to faculty and administrator participants not involved in the Bonner Program.  That track will have options to attend just part of the SLI.
  • We welcome Bonner Alumni to join us, and we will find a variety of ways to plug you in, including by providing training or exposure to your work after college, issue knowledge, and career development.
