Save Our Children of Elyria
Address:
Organization Description: Save Our Children, Inc. is a non-profit organization that was formed out of the youth ministries of Asbury United Methodist Church (Asbury UMC). Asbury UMC is the oldest historically Black church in Elyria and has, for more than thirty years, maintained a strong commitment to the well being of children and youth in the community. SOC was incorporated in June 1996 and received its tax-exempt status from the Internal Revenue Service in November 1997. The goals of Save Our Children's programs are reflected in the organizational mission: to provide intellectual, social and spiritual enrichment to ìat-riskî children and youth.
Save Our Children's After-School Program serves more than 55 children through an academically stimulating, arts enriched and socially supportive program. Save Our Children's eight-week Summer Program provides exciting and enriching activities for 75 children and youth. Additionally, the SOC Teen Youth Council empowers up to 20 pre-teen and teenagers to strive for excellence, make good choices, develop a strong vision for their lives and to give back to their community. Save Our Children, Inc. is housed in the Asbury UMC, a small building adjacent to the church, which houses three classroom spaces and two bathrooms. The program also utilizes space in the basement of Asbury UMC, next door.
