Organization Description: The Institute on Philanthropy and Voluntary Service is a summer internship program for outstanding undergraduate students interested in volunteerism and careers in the nonprofit sector. The 2010 summer institute will be held June-August 2010, at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.  By participating in this program, students wil enhance their leadership skills and identify opportunities for fulfilling careers in the nonprofit sector. This fast-paced institute offers a rigorous combination of professinal experience for 30-35 hours a week, academic learning and service projects that will provide you with an unparalleled experience in the nation's capital. 

Program Components:

Internships: Competitive placements with premier national and community nonprofit organizations,

Academic Classes: Up to 9 credit hours from Georgetown University

Housing: Furnished on-campus apartments in the heart of DC

Volunteerism: Variety of hands-on community projects

Leadership Development: Leadership, mentoring  and career building activities

Scholarships: Over half of all students receive full or partial funding

Internship Position

Internship Description: Internship positions are matched with students' specific interests and abilities in mind.  Intern responsibilities vary, but often include fundraising, direct service, policy research, event planning, volunteer management, and communications activities.  

A variety of organizations participate as internship sites including local community organizations, national and international nonprofit organizations, and DC-based charitable foundations. 

A wide range of issue areas are represented such as homelessness, domestic violence, youth development, the arts, crime prevention, community development, the environment and people with disabilities.

Internship Start/End Dates:

Application Process: Online applications are available at our website. Applications will be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis until March 5, 2010 with scholarship priority given to those who apply early.  Applicants completing their application by the early deadline of December 4, 2010 will receive a 5% discount on their tuition balance. Qualifications:

1.Completion of two semesters at an accredited college or university.  Freshmen are not eligible for Early Deadline, but may apply for Priority and Final Deadlines.

2.Demonstrated leadership ability and interest in serving the nonprofit sector. 

3.Preferred GPA of 3.0 or higher.
