Organization Description: Seeks to build a multiethnic and religious movement to replace war and injustice with peace and justice. FOR connects militarism, sexism, racism, economic inequality, and war as building blocks for a culture of violence. We value honest coalition-building as strategy for moving toward a culture of nonviolence.

Internship Position


Internship Descriptions: PUBLICATIONS: Work with the staff of Fellowship, the oldest continuously-published peace journal in the United States, developing essential skills in publications. Engage in media outreach for FOR programs, maintain and update the FOR media list and press packet, send press releases, keyboard, proofread, handle correspondence, and conduct research. Required: Excellent computer skills.

NONVIOLENCE TRAINING FOR ADULTS & YOUNG ADULTS: Help coordinate, support and provide training and work with an FOR Task Force. Refer and provide support for trainers across the country, organize training events and facilitate workshops. Incorporate nonviolence theory and practice, social change, organizing and community building. Participate in routine tasks.

INTERNATIONAL ISSUES ORGANIZING: Help coordinate a national campaign in opposition to U.S. action abroad, working with an FOR Task Force. (Examples: Iraq Campaign of Conscience and Palestine/Israel delegations.) Distribute resource materials and information by e-mail and printed newsletters and resource packets; do outreach to update campaign participants; organize gatherings, protests, and advocacy efforts; develop a media campaign; work in coalition with other groups.

RACIAL/ECONOMIC JUSTICE and DISARMAMENT: Help coordinate and facilitate workshops; assist with outreach. Help organize special events and media coverage. Work with an FOR Task Force.

LOCAL GROUP ORGANIZING: Publish the “Local Organizer” newsletter, a Directory of Local Groups, and other resource materials for use by members, local FOR groups, and affiliated religious peace fellowships. Outreach to new members and campuses; help form new groups. Work with an FOR Task Force. Help plan nationwide October interfaith “Stop the Hate” vigils.
