City Year unites young people of all backgrounds for a year of full-time service, giving them the skills and opportunities to change the world. As tutors, mentors and role models, these diverse young leaders help children stay in school and on track, and transform schools and communities across the United States, as well as through international affiliates in Johannesburg, South Africa and London, England. Just as important, during their year of service corps members develop civic leadership skills they can use throughout a lifetime of community service. Corps Member Position
Position Description:
At City Year’s locations across the United States, young people called corps members serve full-time for 10 months, each providing more than 1,700 hours of service. Corps members serve in schools full-time as tutors, mentors, role models and leaders of after-school programs. As a corps member, you will help students stay on track and get back on track to graduate by improving their course performance, attendance, and behavior. You will provide one-on-one or small group tutoring and mentoring, monitor attendance, support positive behavior, lead after-school programs and organize activities that improve the overall school environment. As young leaders between the ages of 17 and 24, corps members are uniquely able to help students and schools succeed.
Corps members may also:
- Share their commitment to service and helping children by leading programs that teach students how to be active citizens in their communities and make a difference.
- Engage community members and corporate partners in physical service projects, including renovating schools, painting murals, planting gardens, and creating playspaces.
Service Start/End Dates: *The service term is fo 10 months or an academic year begining in August and ending in June. (Each site is subject to different start and end dates.)
