Mobilizing more volunteers

Volunteer mobilization is an on-going year round activity. Volunteer mobilization supports multiple programs & activities: Get SET Summer Arts Camp, 5 day After School Program, and special events i.e  Carnival, Backpack & School Supplies Giveaway, and a Take it to the Streets Block Party. AmeriCorps Members helped us reach out to both old and new community partners such as Princeton Theological Seminary, Princeton University, The College of New Jersey, Mercer County Community College, Trenton Central High School, West Windsor High Schools- North & South, Passage Theatre, MIMA/Spin Jazz, Westminster Presbyterian Church, Lawrenceville Presbyterian Church, Dutch Neck Presbyterian Church, Kids for Kids of New Jersey, Girls Scouts of America and CityArts.

Ensuring a Brighter Future for America's youth

This summer the AmeriCorps Members helped us to expand our summer activities to include mentoring youth through a five day a week work/learning mentoring program. The program  which included training in a variety of disciplines such as First Aid, leadership training, trust and team building excercises,  artistic expression, improving verbal and written skills, resume building and group problem solving.

Engaging students in communities

The theme of this Summer's Art Camp was Get SET Goes Green. While expanding our undertanding of our community while teaching our children, teens and ourselves about what is needed to respect and protect our environment. Westminster purchased 4 Earthboxes to expand our childrens interest in growing food. Activities engaged the children in a neighborhood clean up, planted a garden, visited a local orchard, and became an official recycling site.

Harnessing Baby Boomers’ experience

We have witnessed the joy and satisfaction of baby boomers who feel called to truly give back to their communities. Many of our adult volunteers shared their stories about how they would not have been able to further their education nor achieve their career dreams had it not been for the adult volunteers in their lives that had positively influenced. Preparing younger generations of youth in this challenging urban environment was  perceived as their responsibly. They were pleasantly surprised by how much they personally got out of volunteering.

Section 4: Great Stories

Highlight member activities which are especially reflective of the impact the program has in

the community, or which illustrate an innovative or highly successful aspect of program

operation.
