Louisville, KY 40292

The University of Louisville  is a large, public, research-oriented institution located in Louisville, KY, the largest city in the state.  With its urban setting and total enrollment of over 20,000 students, the University of Louisville stands apart from the majority of other Bonner colleges.  Founded in 1798, the University of Louisville has been deeply committed to serving its community for over 200 years.  In fact, UofL was recently ranked 12th by CUMU in the “Saviors of Our Cities: A Survey of Best College and University Civic Partnerships” awards for its dedication to improving its city.  Louisville's size offers the Bonner Program at UofL a myriad of diverse opportunities for service.  Currently, Bonners are playing active roles in confronting issues with Immigration, Sustainability, Food Safety, Local Agriculture, Health Care, and Racial and Gender Equality, among many others.  Altogether, the close connection between the university and the city allows the University of Louisville's Bonners to become not only leaders on campus, but also agents for change in their communities.

The University of Louisville Bonner Leader Program was founded in 2001.  It is housed in the Kent School of Social Work led by Director, Lynetta Weathers Mathis.

MORE ABOUT US!

Given the University of Louisville's urban setting, the opportunities for service available to our students touch on a wide variety of issues.  Please see below for links to some of our Community Partners.  UofL's Bonner Program has never been at a more exciting time in its history. Our program is part of the Engage Lead Serve Board at U of L which is a student government branch devoted to organizations and programs on campus which prove opportunities for students to engage in service and service learning. Through our work with the Board we are planning and offering many service events throughout the year for our Members and fellow students. In addition, we are currently working to revise our list of community partners to better suit the interests and needs of our Bonners.  During the upcoming year, we hope to adapt many of the ideas shared at Bonner SLI 2014 to suit our large, public, research-oriented university.  In doing this, we hope that the current Bonner Leaders and UofL's Bonner Program itself may reach their fullest potentials.

UPCOMING EVENTS!

Project Warm logo

On November 15th several Bonner members and U of L students lead by a sub committee of select Bonner members will partner with Project Warm to engage the community by helping to winterize the homes of community members who are not physically or financially able to do so their selves. We are very excited about this service opportunity. Updates to come!

Update!

Project Warm was a great success! All of our team leaders and their teams were able to serve the clients, see first hand different cultures and how people in our community truly live, and everyone had a great time serving! We look forward to hosting this event again in the future.
