CAMPUS AT A GLANCE

Tusculum is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award the Bachelor of Arts in about 20 majors from Biology to Visual Arts, the Bachelor of Science in organizational management, the Master of Arts in education, and the Master of Arts in organizational management.

Tusculum College remains true to its origins as a church-related institution of higher learning in the civic republican tradition by developing educated citizens distinguished by academic excellence, public service, and qualities of Judeo-Christian character. The College reflects the ideal of its civic arts heritage through its commitment both to integrity and to the development of strong citizenship qualities in the traditional-aged students from diverse backgrounds as well as the working-adult students from the region. Furthermore, the College uses innovative approaches to teaching and learning at the undergraduate and Master's levels to instill factual knowledge, cultivate the habits of practical wisdom, and develop the skill of reflective thinking, all necessary for personal success in a democratic society.

MORE ABOUT US

  • First Year Trip- In August of 2008, as part of their orientation, the Bonners traveled to Nashville, TN to work with the Center for Student Missions, a nationwide urban outreach ministry.  While in Nashville they spent time interacting with and serving clients at various soup kitchens.  They also were involved in a homeless immersion experience which proved to be a powerful experience for all.  In addition the Bonners packed hygiene boxes at Feed the Children.  The trip was a geat introduction to and for our new Bonners; and a super bonding experience for all, giving everyone an energized start to the new academic year.

  • Second Year Exchange - The Bonner Exchange was held again this year with Carson-Newman College.  We met with CNC's Bonners for dinner and then traveled together to an Anti-Nuclear Peace Rally hosted by the Oak Ridge Environmental Peace Alliance  (OREPA)

--->Through this experience our Bonners were given the opportunity to think and reflect upon a critical yet complex social issue that is very relevant to us and Carson-Newman since our schools are both in the nuclear shadow of the Y-12 bomb plant. The students were also introduced to forms of citizenship action not common to all.

  •  A Community Partner Workshop was held over the summer to continue relationship building and engage in an Asset Building Community Development process.  Good conversations and connections around the assets of volunteers but need for transportation emerged.  There were some new agencies attending who were introduced to the Bonner program and other activities of the Center.

  • Service on Saturday (SOS) is a Bonner sponsored event which includes participants from the campus at large. This past year we were involved in a wide range of service activities through SOS from playing basketball with a group of youth from the Boys & Girls Club to doing river cleanup w/ a group from Holston Home for Children.  We hosted two SOS's at Rural Resources: one in the Fall, and another in the Spring after the organization's main building (main barn) was destroyed by fire (see video below).

--->Through S.O.S. we are expanding and fostering a campus culture based on community and service; and strengthening our               relationships with our Community Partners.
