Siena Annual Report 2007-2008Annual Report – Programmatic Section
Please complete this template below to share programmatic highlights. The entire report can be three pages or less. Please share information and highlights, in a letter-like or reporting format, that addresses the following three categories and provides a synopsis of your Bonner Program this year.
Implementation of Student Development:
The co-curricular model was introduced to Siena this year by the Bonner Program. We were able to meet with different offices throughout campus that have service as part of their ongoing efforts and talked about how we might be able to work together. One major office we were able to talk with is the Multicultural program. They have many student groups that participate in service activies throughout the school year. We also made connections with the career center, the women's center and residential life. We talked with many of these groups that do leadership training about the possibility of working together to so that numerous groups on campus are not doing the same trainings. We are currently planning a large-scale service project with Residential Life for incoming fall freshman that will take place at an ourdoor facility that we partner with in the Bonner Leader Program. We have formalized a training and meeting schedule for the upcoming year. This format can be used for years to come.
Currently we only have first year students so we are working on their trip.
Implementation of Community Partnerships:
The Franciscan Center for Service and Adovocay has many ongoing community partnerships. We have identified which of those has the capacity to host Bonner students and are working on a handbook for these organizations. We have made it clear in these handbooks the roles the community partner plays in co-cirricular learning as we hope to supplement the academic life of each student. We have also developed a training regarding site-based teams so community partners understand how their site will grow as the Bonner Program does. We currently have one site based team at the 4H Earth Club. They will begin their work in September and their coordinator has a very good understanding of site-based teams and co-cirricular education because he has received Bonner training from the Foundation staff. We will be making site visits at the end of the summer to finalize all plans for the fall. The handbook could be used in following years as an orientation outline for community partners.
Campus-wide Culture and Infrastructure:
One major component of the Siena Bonner Leader program is that we will be offering 10 freshman every year a $2000 work-study leadership development scholarship. They will do their Bonner hours while recieving work-study paychecks bi-weekly. This was decided with help from the financial aid department. We are currently working on documents to be given to admissions so thaty students are aware of this scholarship before and during their Siena application process. We will be working with the career center and residential life, along with admissions and financial aid, to enhance our recruitment efforts.
Siena has a new president who has re-devoted the school to its original mission, a major componenent of which is service. This really helps to shift the culture to a place where the Bonner Leader program can both thrive and do its part to institute that mission. The Bonner Program will also be taking part and helping to facilitate all major service projects done by The Franciscan Center for Service and Advocacy such as Community Service Day, Volunteer Fair, Blood Drives and The Giving Tree. |
