Mobilizing more volunteers: Farmers Against Hunger has utilized volunteers from a wide variety of resources, whether it be local churches, middle school students, college students, volunteers from other relief organizations, or volunteers who have reached out just through word of mouth and media.
Ensuring a brighter future for America's youth
Engaging students in communities Students from all over the state have participated in various activities. Several groups from Princeton have helped with gleanings at Strawberry Hill Orchard, we had a group of students from Lawrenceville Prep glean apples at Terhune Orchards. These are just 2 examples of many actvities over the last 3 months.
Harnessing Baby Boomers’ experience Most of the Boomers who participate in FAH functions are either affiliated with a local church or who hear of an event via local media or word of mouth. But the responses have been very consistent.
Section 4: Great Stories
The program director Judy Grignon organized a large scale event for Thanksgiving this year. Utilizing many of our resources, she was able to collect over 35,000 lbs of all donated produce from various organizations, such as Donio Trucking, Wakefern Food Distribution (Shoprite) and a few of our donnor farms as well. We, in partnership with Terhune orchards and their great new spacious barn, hosted a one day event to pack and distribute the produce into about 2000 "baskets" which then would be delivered to relief organizations thorughout the state. The day long event went off very smoothly, with 100s of volunteers showing up throughout the day; girl scouts, a soccer team, a few local schools, several seniors, a couple of volunteers from other Bonner organizations (Thanks Paul and Ben), and many more. The baskets were all delivered within the next 2 days. This event was very succesful and really exemplified the hard work of Judy and all of the community coming together. It was a great team effort.
