Mobilizing more volunteers

  • On Tuesday afternoons as a part of our Get SET five day after school program, Misti coordinated the creative and enthusiastic energy of 9 newly recruited Trenton Central High School

students who are part of a TCHS Community Service Program, and 10 adult volunteers. Together they served the 42 children who are enrolled in our free Get SET Academic

          Year After School Program.

  •

Misti coordinated the efforts of 3 adult volunteers as together they planned and implemented an arts curriculum for a weekend Family Retreat at the Johnsonburg Presbyterian Center i

n New Jersey, October 16-18, 2009. Misti created a curriculum that engaged children of all ages. The beautiful intergenerational art project created over the weekend, were two very large

    wreaths.

  • Misti helped to the create a banner at Get SET’s Thanksgiving Celebration. She coordinated the efforts of 9 youth and 5 adults volunteers.

  •

Misti designed a creative Family Memoir Booklet and took pictures of every family at our very first Family Memoirs Event. The Family Memoir Booklets contained one very special

holiday memory of each member of the family with creative illustrations, their picture was placed on the cover, and the booklet was bond together. Misti coordinated the volunteer efforts

of 3 Trenton Teen Leadership Corps volunteers and 4 adult volunteers.

Ensuring a brighter future for America's youth

Misti's work as Americorps' Artist in residence allows us to practice one of Get SET's core principals as stated by Former Nationl Endowment of the Arts chairperso Jane Alexander "Art

can save lives". Misti's artistic vision  allows the Get SET children to see the wonder in every day surroundings and recycled materials. Uig their talents and her guidance the childen's visions become a real.

Engaging students in communities

Harnessing Baby Boomers’ experience

We continue to witness the joy and satisfaction of baby boomers who feel called to truly give back to their communities. Our adult volunteers are committed to learning the unique names of our children and learning their stories. They are creating mentoring relationships with our Get SET children as well as with our youth volunteers. They have been very consistent because they are seeing the positive impact that they are having in the lives of the children and youth.

Section 4: Great Stories

Highlight member activities which are especially reflective of the impact the program has in the community, or which illustrate an innovative or highly successful aspect of program operation.

Two of the biggest event which involving Misti, the members of Get SET and some of the youth volunteers were a recent retreat and the Family Memoirs Night.

Misti always ready to join in is loved and appreciated by everyone from children, youth and staff. See Misti in action.
