MORE ABOUT US (our partners, trips, structure, best or unique practices) As stated in the Pfeiffer University mission statement, our institution is committed to "preparing servant leaders for lifelong learning." This strong commitment to community service is spearheaded by the Francis Center for Servant Leadership. Since its inception in 2000, the Center has collaborated with the Office of Campus Ministry (assistance in coordination and planning of local, national, and international service trips), Academic Affairs (assistance in securing course related service placement to support Academic Service Learning and Engaged Learning), Co-curricular Service (maintaining student volunteer center for long and short term volunteer placements) and the Office of Student Development (incorporating service into student leader training).
As the Center for service on campus, the Francis Center provides a wealth of resources to the community. In the past 6 years the Francis Center has seen well over 72,000 hours of service supported by the Center. Following this year's successful implementation of the Volunteers Involved at Pfeiffer Program (VIP) and the Center being confirmed as a Service Site for Bonner Leaders, there has been a significant increase in volunteer service among students, faculty, and staff as a result of student led and student supported initiatives.
Over 60 Community Partner Agencies are registered with the Francis Center, providing Bonner Leaders with unique opportunities to engage in direct service with local communities in Albemarle and Salisbury. To prepare and enhance our Bonner Leaders' service efforts the Francis Center provides these and other students with the opportunities to gain the necessary tools and skills to positively impact the communities served. These activities include but are not limited to; bi-weekly reflection meetings and blogging, participation in Saturday of Service events, participation in Campus Week of Dialogue and Servant Leadership Emphasis Weeks, participation in Bonner Service Exchanges and First Year Trips, among other programs.
