Growing and Learning from a Big Idea

Motivating a Team

Action: Working on a Big Idea is an opportunity for personal growth!

Here are two activities to help individuals boldly envision their future and communally discern how to get there.

Summary:
These activities work great as a sequence, but they can also be used individually.

The first activity, Creating a Personal Vision, is a guided reflection.  It offers individuals a chance to craft a vision for their life and vocation.  Then it uses that vision to identify areas of their life where they want to grow.

The second activity, Learning Circles, is a guided dialogue.  It provides an opportunity for individuals to share their visions in a supportive environment, and gets them thinking about how their Big Idea could be an opportunity for personal growth.

Objectives:
-    To support participants in boldly constructing a vision for their future.

-    To help students discern what qualities they would need to develop in order to live into their personal vision.

-    To build listening skills, self-awareness and empathy.

Level:
These activities are for EVERYONE!

Materials:
-    Paper and a writing utensil for each individual to write out their personal vision statement.

-    Flip Chart and markers for the final reflection brainstorm.

Preparation:
You will need to review this lesson plan, and the Explanation of Learning Circles.  Make sure you are comfortable leading the Learning Circles exercise (for help see the full training module: Learning Circles: A Train-the-Trainers Approach).
