Annual Report – Programmatic Section

Implementation of Student Development:

Students meet twice each month.  The early fall meetings accomplish the paperwork requirements of the program as well as training on how to report hours and complete CLA's.  Meetings later in the fall and spring are devoted to issue awareness, community partner visits, team building and visiting community partner sites.

Implementation of Community Partnerships:

The Director of the Program meets in person with the volunteer coordinator of each community partner site in the late summer.

All community partners met with the Bonner Leaders in October, presented a short summary of their purpose what activities students would do to serve with them.  Students then met individually with their chosen partner to answer questions and work out their schedules.

In addition, during regular twice-a-month meetings, community partners come to campus and present or direct a discussion on a particular aspect of their area of expertise.  Students then reflect on the discussion, and grow in their understanding or the issues of hunger, homelessness, literacy and educating the mentally handicapped.

At least once each semester, students meet at community partner sites so that they are exposed to the issues of all partners first hand, and have an understanding of what their fellow and sister Bonner Leaders are doing in their service.

Campus-wide Culture and Infrastructure:

Please describe key elements and progress in the development of campus-wide infrastructure and the role of the Bonner Program in enhancing (or being enhanced by) campus-wide culture and participation in service, touching on the following (suggested one page text):

  1. Key relationships and activities involving faculty and academic connections.  In particular, what work was done with relevant coursework, a minor, or other curricular integration.
  2. Key relationships and activities involving other departments or divisions on campus (for example for recruitment, student wellness or retention, financial aid, and so on).
  3. Unique initiatives (such as events or strategic planning) that have enhanced institutionalization of service and civic engagement on campus.

Currently this semester, MCCC will be petitioning to be a school club/organization. Becoming an club/organization will allow for Bonner, MCCC, and Americorp to get recogition for the community service that we do and will constitute that we are taking care of our community. We will also be opening the club/ organization will allow for all alumni as well as current students, faculty and staff to join. As well as petitioning to be an organizaton or a club many Bonners took on the task of being in other clubs. AASO, TV and HOSPOTALITY are some of the clubs that Bonners have joined.I myself have been assisted financial aid and the learning center with freshman orientation and student tours.
