Mobilizing more volunteers

A farm donor in Bridgeport contacted FAH two weeks ago offering thousands of ears of sweet corn to be harvested. Without a list of volunteers in that area, we contacted local churches and the AC Rescue Mission. Through these organizations many volunteers came for the first time to harvest produce for the program. As a result of these activities each organization received fresh sweet corn, and are familiar with the FAH program. Next year as the season unfolds we now have additional groups of volunteers to contact for help.

Section 4: Great Stories

Highlight member activities which are especially reflective of the impact the program has in

the community, or which illustrate an innovative or highly successful aspect of program

operation. Brian Strumfels created an additional collection and distribution route on Mondays by visiting roadside markets and farms in his area. As a result these new farm donors have donated thousands of lbs. of fresh produce, and one farmer has opened up his farm for sweet corn harvests. Volunteers have harvested at his farm on 4 occasions so far.
