Dickinson College is located in Carlisle, a historic town in south central Pennsylvania. It is part of the metropolitan region of Harrisburg, the state capital. The campus is 104 acres, including an 86-acre main campus a few blocks from the center of town. It was founded in 1783, the first college chartered in the newly-recognized United States of America. It was named to honor John Dickinson, the penman of the American Revolution and a signer of the Constitution.

Accomplishments this year

 

*Recruited an active and engaged new Bonner class.

 

*Conducted an Orientation weekend in September 2009 which kicked off with a Community Partner Fall Welcome Reception.  A training session centered on Bonner and bwbrs fundamentals followed the next day and culmintaed with a service project.

 

*Improved participation in and training on BWBRS, CLA’s, and evaluations.

 

*Spring 2010 focused on Hunger and Homelessness in Carlisle.  Bonners collected hygiene and baby products for care bags that were distributed to the community, displayed photo essays/posters of local hunger and homelessness on campus in high-traffic areas and convened community partners for a gathering recognizing huner and homelessness in the local area.

 

*Week long first year service trip to New Orleans occurred in May 2010.

 

*Utilized a variety of high quality campus programs involving expert speakers, documentary films and scholarly panels to enhance the Bonner Training and Enrichment goals.

 

*Received a high number of great evaluations from our community partners.

 

*Three sophomores participated in the INSPIRE Conference at Siena College as the 2nd year exchange.

Sent Bobby an outline for goals/activities for this spring. Leonard met with admissions, work-study and Professor Staub (Academic Affairs) to start thinking about next year, recruiting earlier, etc.
