Concord UniversityCAMPUS NAME AND ADDRESS Concord University 1000 Vermillion Street PO Box 1000 Athens, West Virginia 24712
CAMPUS AT A GLANCE The mission of Concord University is to provide quality, liberal arts based education, to foster scholarly activities, and to serve the regional community.
Concord University provides rigorous programs, primarily at the baccalaureate level, which prepare students to pursue various graduate study and career options and to assume leadership and professional roles in a multicultural society. In keeping with its tradition of service to the region, the University will offer a limited number of carefully selected graduate degrees. While we incorporate a variety of educational methodologies/technologies, our size and the caring dedication of our faculty, staff and administration are the principal assurances of a quality educational opportunity at Concord University.
As a learning community, Concord University is committed to furthering knowledge through professional development activities and programs, through research, and through the application, publication and appreciation of scholarly efforts.
The primary purpose of Concord’s mission is academic; however, the service the University provides to its state and region goes beyond the classroom. Concord University contributes to the quality of cultural and economic life in southern West Virginia through collaboration with both public and private organizations and agencies and through extension of its support and assistance into the region it serves.

MORE ABOUT US (our partners, trips, structure, best or unique practices) Best Practices:
Our Bonner Freshman Orientation is always the highlight of the fall term! We spend three days together learning about the specifics of getting started as a Bonner Scholar, experiencing the low and high ropes courses at North American River Runners in Hico, WV, and completing a service project. Orientation gives the new Bonners a chance to meet each other, as well as some of our returning students who serve as orientation staff.
For our Freshman Service Trip the past few years, we've taken students to Washington, D.C. to work with the National Coalition for the Homeless. We stay at the Church of the Pilgrims in D.C., work at various agencies that feed and serve the homeless and have an opportunity to visit some of the national and historic sites in D.C. Agencies that we have worked with include D.C. Central Kitchen, the Capital Area Food Bank, Martha's Table, Street Sense, and S.O.M.E. Many of our graduating seniors still consider their freshman service trip to be one of the highlights of their Bonner experience!
For one of our Sophomore Exchange Weekends, we had students from WV Wesleyan who visited our campus and we worked together at Scottie's Place in Peterstown, WV. Scottie's Place is a wilderness adventure camp that serves homeless children in our area and the surrounding region.
