We advocate for fairness, impartiality, and equality while addressing systemic social and environmental issues.

This video was developed by Bonner Congress Reps at the Summer Leadership Institute 2008 to showcase the Common Commitment 'Social Justice.'

These links take you to some really cool workshops, activities, and reflection exercises that you can use in your Bonner program (monthly or class meetings, orientations, site- or issues-based team meetings, etc.) relevant to the theme of social justice.

Some examples of things to think about related to social justice are:
  • The relationship between factors of diversity, like income and race, and issues of environmental justice, like waste and dumping in communities, access to healthy foods, and so on.
  • Levels of access and equity to high-quality public education
  • Equal pay for equal work, and pay differences by factors like gender/sex and race.
  • Ways to connect direct service work and helping professions with long-term systemic work for change, for instance through public policy, distribution of resources, and advocacy.
  • RESULTS is an organization through which you can learn a lot more about legislation or other advocacy efforts to eliminate the worst effects of poverty.  Check out the ISSUES page.
