Organization Description:
Motherland International Relations (MIR) serves as a bridge to Africa through educational service oriented programs. We support appropriate technologies and sustainable agricultural programs in Africa and the Diaspora. Motherland International Relations seeks relationships with complimentary organizations in order to renew all through co-operation.
The specific objectives of the organization are:
1) To facilitate educational, service based programs in West and East Africa that support sustainability through agricultural and appropriate technologies.
2) To organize educational programs focusing on the history and culture of Africa and the Diaspora.
3) To establish, maintain and support resource centers in North Carolina, Ghana and Ethiopia for area residents and visitors.
4) To provide economic assistance through scholarships for Motherland International Relation’s program participants.

Internship Position
Internship Description: Current needs of the organization include an office coordinator, who can compile and manage a database, has interest in research, grant writing and networking. We have many books that will go into a resource center that need categorizing and labeling so they are shelf ready. We could use the help of 1 intern during the summer and will refine the job description.

Service Opportunity
Service Opportunity Description: This is our main offering. We facilitate service programs to Ethiopia and Ghana. During these programs we travel to different places and regions, connecting with local community and grassroots organizers and people who are working towards the progressive, sustainable development of their country. We engage in a variety of workshops and particicpate in a 7-10 day hands-on service project. For a sample itinerary, please visit the website.
MIR's co-founder, Debra Kiliru is a Bonner Alum '99 who continues to dedicate her life in service to the world and her local community.
MIR looks forward to collaborating with the Bonner Foundation and the rest of the Bonner Network, in offering out-of-the box, cross-cultural, experiencial, service based education to Africa!
