Organization Description: The mission of Jubilee Project is to provide empowerment to people in need in Hancock County, Tennessee, one of the lowest income counties in the state, through youth development, small business development, and leadership development. We seek to address people's economic, spiritual, social, and physical needs as an inclusive, community development nonprofit organization initiated and guided by Christian values and relationships.

Internship Position
Internship Description: Interns would have the option of combining work on any of the
following projects at Jubilee Project:
(1)Youth Program (with youth ages 10-13 and 14-17): We currently serve about 230 youth per year. Intern would assist with and implement existing programs and develop new activities in the areas of sports, fine arts, Risk Prevention programs, home repair and other community service projects, trips to plays, opera, etc.. Intern would also help develop new post-high school group, ages 18-25, help youth develop food canning/candy making project using Jubilee’s shared use kitchen, and be a mentor to several youth in personal development, leadership development, career exploration, etc.
2) Value-Added Agriculture Program: This project helps farmers make more money by processing crops for sale in a shared community kitchen. Interns would help staff coordinate farmer cooperative and develop new programs, help contact participating farmers about crops to be canned for sale, research best products and recipes for canning, help train and assist cooperative members in using email and Internet to work together, and help youth develop a canning project using Jubilee’s shared use kitchen.
3) Oral History Projects: Assist in projects with a possible focuses on mountain music tradition, self-sufficiency practices (gardening, canning, making soap, etc.), mountain folk medicine, and areas of interest to you.
4) Peace With Justice Committee: Working with the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church, covering about a 35 -county area of east Tennessee/SW Virginia. Interns would help recruit and organize youth and adult members, help develop email, phone, and mail networks, plan gatherings and events, and develop a web page.
Internship Start/End Dates:

interacting with high school age youth, and have a willingness to learn
and take direction. Interest in rural communities, community development
and/or vegetable growing and sustainable development is a plus.
