Organization Description: Citizen Schools is a leading national nonprofit provider of out-of-school learning programs for students in 6th, 7th and 8th-grade. We uniquely mobilize caring adults of all pursuits and professions to be full partners in education. These adult volunteers tap their expertise to teach hands-on learning projects that have real-world relevance and emphasize marketable skills. Our programs also include activities that build academic, leadership, and study skills, preparing adolescents for achievement in high school, college, the workforce and civic life.

Job Position
Internship Description: TEAM LEADER and COMMUNITY BUILDER at a Citizen Schools campus. As part of a campus team, Fellows plan and lead hands-on educational activities; design and teach curriculum; recruit students and volunteers; engage parents and teachers; and foster partnerships with school faculty and community organizations.
INTERN with Citizen Schools, a partner school, or other community organization. Through a morning partnership, Fellows build their professional skills in a nonprofit environment, bringing the resources of their cities to urban children and their families.
SCHOLAR engaged in ongoing professional development, including the opportunity to earn a Master’s degree. Fellows receive training on teaching and instruction, curriculum design, community development and mobilization as well as on leadership, management and other professional skills. A partnership with Lesley University enables select Teaching Fellows to earn Master’s in Education.

Successful applicants will possess a range of attributes, including:

Qualifications: Fellows should be thoroughly committed to hands-on, active, community-based learning as a vital complement to traditional school-based education. All candidates must be college graduates, and should have relevant experience working with children; interest in education and community building; ability to engage and organize peers and other adults to meet program goals; outstanding written and oral communication; sound judgment; a sense of humor; willingness to be flexible and adaptable in all activities and responsibilities; self-initiative; timeliness; determination to ensure program success; and the ability to provide and receive feedback.
