Organization Description: The mission of CDS is to create and support a new vision of documentary work--one that connects personal experience and creative expression to education and community life. Community based documentary programs at the Center have focused on neighborhood revitalization, youth education, healing and caregiving and work with a wide array of community groups.

Youth Document Durham will bring ethnically and economically diverse young people, ages 11-14, from Durham communities together to document and learn about their communities’ cultural and physical assets and issues that affect their communities and their lives. Youth Document Durham will enable young people at an important developmental age to learn documentary techniques and to use them as discovery tools that will connect them to their local communities and focus public attention on issues from a perspective often not heard.
