Bonner Leader Funding Through Different Sources

AmeriCorps | Federal Work Study | Grants and Other Sources

How do Bonner Leader programs get their funding? This page delves into some of the ways in which individual Bonner Leader programs receive money, through grants, Americorps and the Bonner Foundation itself.

AmeriCorps

Americorps gives stipends and scholarships based on hours requirements per year, per student. The Bonner Foundation receieved a grant to allow up to 1,000 Americorps Education awards per year. Here is how the New Jersey Bonner schools alot their stipends and scholarships.

  • For 1700 hours of service, one student will receive a stipend of $12,500 and a scholarship of $4,725.
  • For 900 hours of service, one student will receive a stipend of $5,771 and a scholarship of  $2,362.
  • For 300 hours of service, one student will receive a stipend of $1,900 and a scholarship of $1,000.

Federal Work Study

Some Bonner Leader schools pay their students for their service through the school's Federal Work Study program.

  • For example, if a student qualifies for financial aid, they qualify to receive work study. At Middlesex County College, if a student is paid through this program, they receive an hourly pay.

Grants and Other Sources

Some Bonner Leader schools apply for outside grants to fund their programs.

  • Stetson University has a hybrid program (Scholars and Leaders) and funds itself entirely.
  • Middlesex County College writes and receives grants to fund some of its program.
  • To subsidize some of its funding, some Bonner programs hold fundraisers, wherein proceeds go to benefit the center. For example, Middlesex County College's Democracy House has held Bake Sales, Bowl-a-thons and other events to obtain funds.
