Bonner AmeriCorps Certification Process

Page history last edited by Robert Hackett 9 years, 6 months ago

Dear Bonner AmeriCorps Colleagues,

The AmeriCorps Certification Process has been designed to educate and assist campus staff in the requirements of running a successful Bonner AmeriCorps Program.  The AmeriCorps Certification Process should be completed by all campus staff who have responsibility for the administration of the program.

The AmeriCorps Certification Process is divided into five sections.  Each includes a reading requirement and a survey.

1) Recruitment

This section addresses the issues which should be taken into account when selecting potential Bonner AmeriCorps members and service opportunities.

The guidance can be found here:

2) Application and Enrollment

This section covers all the paperwork which must be assembled and the processes which must be completed prior to the enrollment of a Bonner AmeriCorps member.

The guidance can be found here:

3) Eligible Positions

This section deals with the many questions and challenges surrounding whether activities are appropriate for AmeriCorps.  It is important to have a thorough understanding of these rules, and any "grey areas" surrounding them, in order to ensure that Members do not embark on service which later is determined as not allowable.

The guidance can be found primarily in two places on the wiki:

4) Tracking and Evaluating

This section concerns the day to day management of information flows, and processes which are required to be performed, when a Bonner AmeriCorps Member is in active service.  It includes the review and approval of hour logs, completion of evaluations, and the manner in which different types of service must be recorded in BWBRS.

5) Exiting

This section addresses the processes which must be followed to successfully exit a Member from the program.  It deals with timing, reporting requirements and the paperwork and loose ends which must be tied up before a Member can be exited.  The following link takes you to a number of useful resources which should be consulted before attempting the survey, and referred to whenever future questions arise.

The passing grade is an A or at least 90% correct responses.

We believe this process will go a long way towards ensuring everyone who has a direct management responsibility for the Bonner AmeriCorps Program has a thorough understanding of the program requirements and procedures.  As always, please call or email us if you have any questions or suggestions that might make our resource materials or the AmeriCorps Certification Process more helpful.
