30-Day Exit Window

A Member must be exited from his/her term of service within thirty days of his/her Last Day of Service to be in compliance with the Corporation for National and Community Service guidelines.  Members who have not submitted all of their Exit Paperwork to the Foundation within this 30-Day Window risk being exited without having been certified as eligible to receive an Education Award.

See the Last Day of Service Video on this Glossary page for further information.

Duplicate Entry

If an AmeriCorps Member serves more than once at the same site on the same day, the Member should total their hours and create a single entry for that site on that particular day. Otherwise, logging more than one entry for the same site on the same day is considered to be a "duplicate entry" even if the hours served are not equal.  For example, if a Member logs 4 hours at Site XYZ on 06/21/2011 and also logs 2 hours at Site XYZ on the same day (06/21/2011) because he or she returned to serve at the site later on the same day, both of these entries cannot be approved at the Foundation level if logged in this manner.  The correct way to log such hours would be to create a single log entry for 6 hours at Site XYZ on 06/21/2011.

Required Exit Date

The contractual window that the Member has available to serve and complete their required service hours. For 300 and 450 hour Members, one year minus a day from the enrollment date; 900 hour Members have two years minus a day to fulfill their required hours. Any hours served after this date cannot be counted towards the term of service. The required exit date indicates the maximum amount of time that the Member has to fulfill their term of service. If the Member fulfills the required service hours before this date, the exit process begins on the Member's last day of service.
