Through our AmeriCorps Education Award program, the Bonner Foundation provides slots to more than 75 colleges and universities and 1,000 Bonners in our national network of campus-based civic engagement programs.  In doing so, we also connect to a broader national movement of Americans involved in working to improve our communities through service. AmeriCorps is a program of the federal government, administered by the Corporation for National Service.

Bonner AmeriCorps – Why Now?

AmeriCorps is a network of national service programs that engages more than 50,000 Americans each year in intensive service to meet domestic needs in education, public safety, health and the environment. The AmeriCorps component of the Bonner program is a wonderful way for campuses to further support students participating in the Bonner Scholar and Bonner Leader programs.

The Bonner AmeriCorps Program provides students with three types of Education Awards based on the amount of hours served. Each campus can choose to offer their students the following (based upon AmeriCorps enrollments with a start date between 10/6/2010 and 10/5/2011):

  • 2-year 900-hour term with an award upon completion of $2,675.00
  • 1-year 450-hour term with an award upon completion of $1,415.00
  • 1-year 300-hour term with an award upon completion of $1,132.00

Bonner and AmeriCorps – Double the Reward

The partnership between the Bonner Program and AmeriCorps provides students with a significant financial incentive while providing an opportunity to make valuable contributions to the community. Although the financial aspect is not the primary motivation for individuals to join AmeriCorps, it does provide valuable tuition assistance as well as empowering each student to invest their time, energy and idealism in a positive and enriching experience.

If you're from a campus in New Jersey, you may also be interested in our local AmeriCorps-funded programs, which involve a network of New Jersey institutions of higher education.  In New Jersey, the Bonner Programs also engage some full-time AmeriCorps members.
