Objectives:
- Research current America Reads' policies and regulations in regards to what population is served
- Create a proposal for extending America Reads to Mountain View Youth Development Center
- Establish a literacy curriculum designed for adolescents (middle school age) specifically for Mountain View
- Tutor middle school age males in reading, grammar, and vocabulary
Meeting 1
- Reviewing archived documents from past America Reads programs--no site was found that had been updated since 2006
- Find out Family Literacy Initiative Stipulations--Is this program now called Even Start Family Literacy Initiative?
- Find out if the education department has started a partnership with Mountain View
Meeting 2
- Contact that was found on the America Reads website was called--no longer in service
- Call Sharon Teets to see if a partnership had been made with Mountain View
- Get in contact with Dr. Vanlandingham to see what initial steps she took in partnering with the education department to get America Reads started
- Called Phil Ellis from Mountain View Youth Development Center about faxing profiles of the students in order to get an idea of the need for tutors--no answer, left a message

CBR Objectives for 5 November 2008
Channing McLain & Emily Pile: The Research Team--Get Excited!!!!!!!

- Call David Bugg to check on what type of background check needs to be performed for each prospective tutor
- Begin Development Model for the literacy program at MVYDC
- Start an ongoing dialogue with the supervisor/administrator of MV
- Talk about formulating surveys/pretests in order to collect data for reading levels classification in order to set goals for the semester
- Talk to Dr. Joc Collins about mentoring the Statistics/Research Design of the project
- Identify direction and goals for future progress
- Contact Sharon Teets or another professor from the education department to see if any pretests/post tests exist that have been well documented in detected reading levels
5 November 2008
- Dr. Joc Collins was interested in the idea but wanted to add a psychological component to the survey, particularly QRS (quadrant of remembering styles) to determine how the individuals process information (i.e. problem-solving, over-analyzing, reminscing, and ruminating)
- Called MVYDC, left a message with William Neblet (sp?)
- Called and e-mailed Sharon Teets to see if pretests are available for review in order to develop our own pretest/midtest/post test sequence

Channing & Emily,
We received a call today from Roxanne Bowen at Mountainview wanting to discuss recruiting Bonners to help there. She was concerned Bonners may be scared of the possibility and wanted to offer her help in any way. We need to touch base with her about the progress of this initiative and ask Mountainview to identify a key contact for this project.
